“300 wine lovers, 189 wines, 36 wineries, 4 live acts, 3 valleys, 2 lunches, 2 celebrity chefs, 2 gourmet dinners, and a cruise with brunch!” That is how the Marlborough Wine Weekend has been described and 300 visitors have taken up the offer to come to the inaugural event.
“We’ve had a great response from wine lovers and wineries alike” says Wine Marlborough Marketing Manager, Tom Trolove. “The weekend looks set to be a stunning event and to become an annual fixture on the region’s calendar. It is always difficult gathering momentum for a new event, however we have been thrilled at how well tickets have sold and are looking forward to enjoying the weekend!”
The final touches are now being put in place with marquees being erected in breath-taking spots around the region, thousands of glasses are being rinsed ready for the tastings, and national and international guests are starting to fly in. These include international wine writers Ralph Kyte Powell and Peter McCombie MW as well as local wine aficionados Bob Campbell MW, Stephen Bennett MW and many more. The weekend comprises both educational elements such as the sub-regional tour and the grand tastings of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. All this is combined with delicious wines, gourmet cuisine by Martin Bosley and local talent Chris Fortune, and fabulous entertainment provided by Twinset and Sarah Browne.
