Waikato has some of New Zealand’s most prime farming country. Yet there are only relatively small grape plantings in the region. The region has numerous top-class accommodation options and elegant restaurants. Waikato is separated from the Auckland region by the Bombay Hills in the north, and reaches down to Taupo in the south.

Production area 2004: 151 hectares (includes Bay of Plenty)
