Marlborough

Wine Regions

Click here to Buy New Zealand Wine OnlineMarlborough is New Zealand’s wine capital. Not only is Marlborough the best known wine region, it is also the largest wine producing region. Marlborough and in a large part New Zealand’s international reputation has been driven by the world leading Sauvignon Blanc that is produced in Marlborough.

As Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has reached super star status on the world scene, the growing reputation of Marlborough Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Rieslings, Pinot Gris and Méthode sparkling has been unfairly overshadowed.

Wine is not the only gem to be found in Marlborough, it is a gourmet’s paradise with world class olive oil, seafood, and fruit and vegetables all being produced in the region. Being surrounded by mountains on three sides and the sea on the other, it also has haven for outdoor activities.

Production area 2004: 8539 hectares
Principal Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc
